"Death of a Dream" is a deeply personal and cathartic project that allows me to navigate the complex emotions surrounding the end of my marriage. Inspired by the poignant words of Akwaeke Emezi in "You Made a Fool of Death with your Beauty," I have chosen to create a transformative art piece by immortalizing objects that held immense significance within my relationship.

Within this art piece, I have carefully selected objects that represent the journey of my marriage. The engagement ring, wedding ring, and traditional ring embody the dreams, commitment, and traditions we once shared. The fidget spinner ring, an unconventional choice, symbolizes the moments of playful connection that were once a part of our relationship. These objects sit in a bed of my waist beads, representing my commitment, encapsulate the depth of my devotion to our union, and are surrounded by an excerpt from a letter I wrote detailing my wishes for our future.

By encapsulating these objects in epoxy, I freeze them in time, preserving their physical forms and the emotions they carry. This act of preservation becomes a powerful metaphor for the love, joy, pain, and growth experienced during my marriage. Through this artistic endeavor, I am able to confront and process the death of the dream I once held, finding solace and transformation through the act of creation.

"Death of a Dream" stands as a testament to my strength and resilience, showcasing how art can provide a healing space for navigating grief. This project symbolizes my journey of self-discovery and empowerment as I navigate the complexities of love and loss, ultimately finding a renewed sense of self and the courage to move forward.
